Tribute: Malcolm Douglas killed in a car crash

By Cindy Steinle · September 23, 2010 12:27 pm

Before Steve Irwin and before Bear Grylls, there was Malcolm Douglas. The "Original Croc Hunter" in Australia, Doulgas was killed in a car crash at his Wilderness Wildlife Park near Broome today. His shows combined education about the bush of Kimberly as well as survival techniques should one find themselves stranded in the bush. He also took you beyond nature and allowed you to get to know his Australia as well as the people that made his world. Things that are big sellers today on TV, but something he has been doing longer than I have been alive. With a great passion for The Kimberly, he had two wildlife parks near Broome, The Wilderness Wildlife Park as well as The Crocodile Park near Cable Beach. The Crocodile Park served as a research station as well as a location that accepted nuisance crocs. His original documentary "Across the Top" to this day remains one of the highest rated documentaries ever aired in Australia. To read more about the accident, click here.
