Somali Sand Boa(Eryx somalicus)
Other Images
I gratefully acknowledge Dave Sorensen for providing these photos of a preserved Somali Sand Boa. They are probably some of
the only photographs of this rare species in existence!
Head and tail of a preserved Somali Sand Boa
Introduction
The Somali Sand Boa is certainly the most poorly known taxon of Eryx. There are only a handful of
specimens in museum collections and very likely none in captivity. The only photographs I have ever seen of this
species are the two that Dave Sorenson kindly allowed me to post here.
This species is known only from the African nations of Somalia and possibly
Djibouti.
Due to the political instability in Somalia at this time, it is very unlikely that we will learn more about this species in
the near future.
