Freedom Breeder
Freedom Breeder® Rodent Racks
Mouse
Reviewed by: Gerold Merker

The Freedom Breeder® Rodent Rack for mice will definitely increase rodent production with the same or less work when compared with the conventional "professional" rodent plastic bottom/wire top system. We started using these racks in the late 1990's and increased our mouse production to the point where we no longer have to buy large numbers of frozen mice from professional mouse breeders. In very general terms, one mouse is thought to provide enough food for one snake. That is, we used to keep one adult female mouse for every adult snake in our collection. When we kept our colony at these numbers (approximately 100 adult female mice), we could rely on having enough mice for our snakes. As most people know, things never really worked out quite that nicely.

PROS:
Ease of use; Designed for MAXIMUM output with minimal effort
by the keeper; modular; easy to clean; watering system lasts up
to three weeks (depending on season) for four levels between
changes; food rack lasts up to six weeks between additions

CONS:
Design is brutal to mouse tails; Watering system flawed and
needs yearly maintenance to keep from plugging or worse
overflowing and drowning mice in the tub. EXPENSIVE
