A recent study of Southern Pacific Rattlesnakes (Crotalus oreganus helleri) found that the snakes use multiple factors including personality in theit venom delivery. Since venom is a defensive action, learning how the snakes deliver and control. Size does matter, so do several other factors. Personality does too, for example snakes who are more aggressive are more prone to strike more often so they may have a different yeild than one the same size perhaps.
Here are links to two different articles, both by the same people. One is written more for general public and can be found phys.org. You will need to sit through a short ad to watch it, but it is no big deal! The other one is the actual study that can be found here from Loma Linda University.
