Nearly 19,000 animals killed by city after PETA sparks animal cruelty raid

By Jeff Barringer · December 20, 2012 9:31 pm

I don't know what's worse, frankly: the appalling conditions that Global Captive Breeders owner Mitch Behm allegedly kept his animals in, or their fate after the raid made by authorities and animal rights groups, ostensibly "for the animals' protection."

According to an article in today's Sacramento Bee, Behm surrendered all his animals to authorities, and 18,000 rodents and 600 reptiles were "euthanized" as the "most humane option."

Certainly many of the animals, especially the reptiles, could have been placed into the hands of the many rescue organizations geared specifically for treating and caring for surrendered, abandoned, neglected or confiscated reptiles across the U.S. This safety network has long been in place and has been supported by the community for over 20 years, and certainly dozens, if not hundreds, of the reptiles could have and should have been saved.

"A team of veterinarians, reptile specialists and animal cruelty experts determined that because of extreme neglect, cruelty and dangerously unhealthy conditions, euthanasia was the safest and most humane option."

While the article specifically states over 18,000 rodents and 600 reptiles were euthanized, it neglects to mention - how many were saved?

How many of those animals confiscated by authorities survived the raid and were placed into the rescue system?

How much time was actually spent, by experts, examining each of the 18,000+ animals to see which ones could be saved?

Did every single animal die?

Did every single animal have to die?

If someone knows the answers, please tell us.

These are questions we should all be asking. And we should be asking the City of Lake Elsinore. Because they killed those animals. 18,000 of them. Not Mitch Behm.

PETA is the SCUM of the Earth.

I have personally been to Ben's Facility and it was about as bad as any petstore that I've been to. This man loves animals and especially reptiles. He lived to further the advancement of reptiles in the pet trade so that we would have U.S. breed animals instead of wild caught being the only option. But PETA doesn't care about all that care about are their own sick and twisted agendas along with the Humane Society. These evil organizations get away with destroying lives without ever being investigated themselves. Here is an older post from a few years back for you to look at but don't take my word, look it up for yourself.
PETA's Dirty Secret 7 Things You Didn't Know About PETA By ConsumerFreedom.com Sunday, January 28, 2007 1) PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her group's overall goal as "total animal liberation." This means no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no wool, no leather, no hunting, no fishing, and no pets (not even seeing-eye dogs). PETA is also against all medical research that requires the use of animals. 2) Despite its constant moralizing about the "unethical" treatment of animals by restaurant owners, grocers, farmers, scientists, anglers, and countless other Americans, PETA has killed over 14,400 dogs and cats at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. During 2005, PETA put to death over 90 percent of the animals it collected from members of the public. 3) PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals. This includes a 2001 donation of $1,500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front (ELF), an FBI-certified "domestic terrorist" group responsible for dozens of firebombs and death threats. During the 1990s, PETA paid $70,200 to an Animal Liberation Front (ALF) activist convicted of burning down a Michigan State University research laboratory. In his sentencing recommendation, a federal prosecutor implicated PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in that crime. And PETA vegetarian campaign coordinator Bruce Friedrich told an animal rights convention in 2001 that "blowing stuff up and smashing windows" is "a great way to bring about animal liberation." 4) PETA activists regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda, often waiting outside their schools to intercept them as they walk to and from class-without notifying parents. One piece of kid-targeted PETA literature tells small children: "Your Mommy Kills Animals!" PETA brags that its messages reach

Mitch Behm is the one person directly responsible for the deaths of all those animals. I do not support the actions of PETA or HSUS, in fact I despise them. Mr Behm's extreme cruelty and irresponsibility is the reaason they got involved in the first place.

Jeff Barringer Dec 23, 2012

While Mitch Behm's actions, if true, are reprehensible, the animals were alive when he turned over his interest in them to the City and its animal control department. The city, and it's employees, made the decision to kill those animals rather than attempt to place them with any of the dozens of rescue organizations who were well positioned to care for and save many of the animals they chose to kill. While Mitch Behm failed those animals moreso did the agencies and organizations who took it upon themselves to come to their rescue and became their executioners instead when they found the task beyond their capabilities.

Really? You haven't fed live minnows to bigger fish or live mice to a snake or monitor and i guess no live crickets to any other animal.
