I have a year and a half old female florida banded that used to act exactly as you describe. She would sun on her branch over her water dish all day, rarely going away to hide. Picking her up was never a problem but now things are changing. Because I fed her on a regular basis without continuing to handle her as I had earlier, she now assumes that ANYTHING that enters her tank is food. She literally lunges at whatever moves in her tank! She's caught my finger more than once - NO PROBLEM - no hurt. It is purely excitement with no fear! With a full stomach and awareness that food will arrive, she now rests more often in her hide box with her head out and continues to be the healthiest and most robust of all the youngsters. The hide box provides even gentle heat whereas below it, (underground so to speak) is much warmer and the branch offers heat only from above.
Sounds to me that you're doing just fine and your snake is perfect.
