Island populations can be very cool, but are very sensitive. If they are fully functioning hermaphrodites then I think the population would have a good chance of surviving IF their environment stays stable. But island populations are very sensitive to change, mostly because the gene pool is so small and so specialized. E.g. dodos, moas, pygmy elephants, that 2 foot gecko, all the birds on Guam.... the list goes on.
