Young painteds are mostly carnivorous and love guppies, goldfish, crickets. Be sure to float a cuttlebone for calcium in the water,(cut off the back, it splinters and could hurt the turtle.) Be sure to have a decent sized tank (20 gallon minimum) half water with a basking area raised out of the water. Basking temperature should be about 95 degress, water about 75-80. You need a full spectrum light to allow the turtle to absorb vitamin D also. You also need a water filter that can handle large waste and be prepared to change the water at least every two weeks. Sound a little expensive? If you aren't up to it, put the baby back in the wild.
