:i need help in differntiating between these two, as i have a tortoise that looks like both. the shell of my tortoise looks more like a Testudo hermanni boetgerri(eastern race heramnn's) but its underside looks like neither, it HAS black markings scattered on its underside, not joined up, and the rest of the black markings are not dense, save the two dense black patches on the middle of its underside, its aprox. 1 1/2yr old. the underside(i think the term is 'plastron'...but nvm) has a line dividing it neatly into two. i can't spot any spurrs, as supposed to be found on the Testudo graeca ibera(greek tortoise), and i can't spot any 'claw' on the tail as supposed to be found on the eatern race hermann's. perhaps u could teach me how to look out for these 2 characteristics. the shell looks very very alike the eatern race heramnn's, like the shell of the tortoise on the bottom left of this pic: http://www.chelonia.org/ThermanniboetgerriSS2.jpg excpet maybe the black markings are much denser... it was sold to me as hermann's tortoise BTW......
