Cactus leaves for torts

in addition, if you plant them, you can pull off the new pads before they form spines, or let the plants all grow up a bit and then do it (then you'll have lots more young spineless pads). It seems odd, but these grocery store pads WILL sprout. I was amazed at mine when I kept them. It looked like it was withering (plant in gravelly soil and keep watered only maybe once a month), several months later I was gone all day (had checked it in AM) and came home to a new pad formed as big as my pinky finger!

If you wish to use some or all the pads you have, any flame source will do. You can use a zippo or a blow torch, just be sure the flame is strong enough to use (you'd probably just snuff a candle out, for instance) and try not to burn yourself (use tongs to hold the cactus)
