In addition to the Elaphe study mentioned by pjay, most of the other intercontinental genera have also been split - the Old World Coluber are now in different genera (Haemorrhois, Hierophis, etc.), and the Old World Agkistrodon are now Gloydius, Deinagkistrodon, Hypnale, and Calloselasma.

Boa has almost always been restricted to Boa constrictor. A study by Kluge (1991) lumped Acrantophis and Sanzinia into Boa, but this has not been followed universally, and Kluge's phylogenetic scenario has since been contradicted by other studies since then, so that there is little case now for adopting Kluge's classification.
