orphee-- This sounds like an infected area (fungal or bacterial or both) to me. Of course, there's no way to be certain without a vet checking it. First of all, I'd evaluate your substrate. Softshells like to bury themselves so if you put them in gravel, it can't be the standard aquarium gravel. This is too sharp. It must be smooth gravel or even better, sand. Second, I'd make sure your water is clean. You should have a good filtration system. Simple scratches will turn into nasty, life threatening infections if the water is dirty. Finally, make sure you give it an area to bask. Another way that softshells are able to heal small injuries is my periodically drying out and sunning themselves. I hope that helps. --Maxx
