I have a question or you guys out there with allys.
Do you monitor and or adjust the pH? I imagine many of them are found in the wild in water conditioons which are pretty soft and acidic. Many of us lower the pH for ceratin bog loving species. Do you do the same for you alligator snappers?

Oh and i saw the threat about snappers and plants from a while back
May i suggest candaian or american pondweeds (sold as anachris or elodea by the pet trade) for your common snappers? It grows wild all over north america (though somewaht becuase ot has been introduced and is invasive) Many species including chelydra are known to eat it. Its real cheap from pet stores and is(like everything else) way cheaper on the internet.
Perhaps keeping young ones in with it would promote interest in it at an earlier adut age. This works for many people's sliders and painteds.
