Oh, I almost forgot to mention that wild deer mice (P. maniculatus) are known to carry the Hanta Virus, which can be fatal to humans. Although I practised this method and kept deer mice for a year or two, for the above mentioned health risks, I do not recommend that anyone handle deer mice. The Hanta is an airborne virus that can be contracted throught the inhalation of dust laced with mice urine and feces, usually in an enclosed environment like an old building or cave. Many who contract the virus die quickly from it. Symptoms are flu like. Be very careful with wild mice!
