Ive kept both leos and cresteds. Both are very easy species to keep. The only thing you really need to consider are cage sizes (do you have a tall cage for aboreal cresteds) and temp (do you have additional heat sources to heat a tank for leos).

Both species are hardy and are rather tolerable to handling. My cats are far more interested in my crested geckos than leos. PArtially because crested move around throughout the whole cage instead of just the bottom and are easier for the cats to spot. As long as you have a good secure cage and teach your cat to not jump around on the enclosure they shouldnt be a problem.
