Just take a little time every day (2-3 mins) and hold your crestie. I had one female that was a little spitfire...I took a little time everyday to hold her...fed her a little baby food...just having the door open with my hand inside sometimes.
Weighing weekly is another good way to spend a small amount of minimum hands on time with them and it lets you know how their weight/health is. I always know when my females are getting ready to lay eggs, simply because their weight creeps up a few grams...and if the next week it's down a little bit I check the egg box, there's always eggs there.
Remember crested bites dont hurt...so dont be afraid to take a nip or two. It lets them say "Ok..I just bit you...you know where I'm coming from" but if you back down right after they nip you and put them back in the cage then they think "ok...biting everytime will get me back in my cage". If they nip ya just keep em out a little longer till they calm down...then put them back when they are nice and calm. And only a short time each day...you dont want to over do it.
Also, if you can set up a little table or something near them and do homework or pay bills or something (sorry dont know how old you are) they will get used to people just being around and wont think your some big scary monster come to eat them.
