I used to have Convict cichlids and they are very aggressive territorial fish, They dont get really big like oscars but dont stay tiny either, mine grew to about six inches in length, attacked and stressed out and eventually killed everything else in the tank, and then started on each other! A problem that i can see arising by keeping them with a red ear would be, that once the convict gets big and establishes its territory within the tank they will defend it to the death, which if up against a red ear will probably be the convicts death and not the red ears (depending on the turtles size). The convict is not a fish to shy away from a red ear, If I could relive my experience of keeping convicts again, I would have removed them and kept them one to a tank, with a large flower pot in there for him to defend! They defenitely are not a community fish, they like there own space and defend it, If only i knew this when i got them! But i was younger and those small black and white striped fish looked nice, BUT BE WARNED they are very aggressive fish. I found this site which should confirm this
