Colubrids

Hi. I am mainly interested in keeping Colubrids, particularly Elaphe, Lampropeltis species, Thamnophis and Diadophis, and would like to acquire some. I know Elaphe, Lampropeltis and Thamnophis are fairly easy to maintain, and I also know Diadophis is secretive and can be difficult to maintain. Has anyone in this group ever bred any of the aforesaid genera?

I was involved heavily in herpetology years ago when I was going for my B.A. and M.S. and had a lot of experience with different types of herps I kept back then. This was in the 1960s and early 1970s. Then I drifted away from that interest to a degree and kept no reptiles, although I kept tropical fish and continue to do so.

Now I see things have changed considerably, with regulation of reptiles on the state level in many areas, particularly New Jersey where I live, even to the point that apparently collection of ANY native New Jersey herp is illegal, although their possession is not necessarily illegal as long as a permit is obtained.

Also, back in the 1960s there were really no color morphs available and captive raised specimens were not frequnetly encountered.

Are there any members of this group who live in the northern part of New Jersey?
