Where Have All The NJ Salamanders Gone?

It's very odd. Here in Northern NJ, I haven't seen a SINGLE salamander this year! Usually the redbacks emerge as soon as the snow melts. This year, however, the seem to have all disappeared. The same with the slimy Salamanders (Plethodon glutinosus) a nd the little yellow Northern Two-lines. I HAVE seen newts, but that's about it. I know that amphibian species are supposed to be in decline all over the world . . . is this a sine? Is this the "canary in the mine" as they say? I hope not. Anyone else see any Salamanders around? Anyone notice a decrease in numbers? I'll post this on the Field Collecting Forum as well since those folks are always walking around with there eyes to the ground.

Thanks!
