Same sort of story ... only in reverse.
11 years ago (that should help date me), I put a male betta in with my Pacytritons (Paddletails) in an effort to get rid of some small white worms that were growing in the gravel (a trick that I learned from a tropical fish dealer).
Soon after acclimatisation, the Betta went about 'challenging' the pacys, who more or less ignored him No problem, right?
The next morning when I truned on the lights, the Alpha pacy was waddling about with the head of an irate betta jammed into his gaping mouth! When I could stop laughing, I separated the two and removed the betta ... I was afraid that the pacy was going to choke!
Live and learn, or better yet; read from others lessons so you don't have to re-invent the wheel. This 'lessons learned' idea is a good one.
