Curious why people don't like gravel in newt setups

Hi,
Just curious why people don't like gravel in their newt setups. I've kept Fire Bellied newts on gravel for several years with no ill effects. Granted maintenance is a little more intensive but that's about the only drawback I see. Interested in your opinions.
