I only ask because I have never had a male hiss at me, just the females and then only when gravid!
The scratching at the glass is common behavior for many reptiles and can cause injury to the jaw and nose that can result in infection. It is best to try to stop this behavior by taping something along the bottom of the glass; like black or if you don't want to obstruct your view, black nylon window screen. Usually the reptile is trying to get through and invisible barrier just like the birds that fly into windows. Once the barrier becomes visible he should stop. I have some that will still lay against the glass but the don’t scratch or rub on it anymore.
As for the crickets, MHDs will frequently turn down one insect or another for something they favor, like worms! My babies and juveniles will take red wigglers but seem to be less picky than their adult counterparts. My adults rarely eat crickets and certainly won’t take them as a steady diet. They will however, almost always take nightcrawlers. They rarely turn down superworms, will sometimes eat mealworms, love silkworms, and my females pounce on the occasional pinkie that I offer.
As long as he/she is eating I wouldn’t worry too much about what. Also, the nightcrawlers are a good source of Calcium and they seem to do pretty well on them.
