They are wonderful. We have seven at our zoo. They are like little velceraptors. They watch EVERYTHING you do. Their eyes are huge and dark with a very "knowing" expression. They are very much an untamed creature. One that should never be tamed. Beautiful creatures!
They have appendix 1 status, so they can only be kept with a permit. Our zoo has had 6 that were confinscated a little over a year ago, and unfourtunatly NOTHING is being done with them. You would think that they would want to try a breeding program or something. Yet they sit. Four of them in ten gallon aquariums!!! No heat, little food. They havent grown but a few inches this whole time. I am trying to find a way for them to be transferred to a more suitable facility. Once a location is found, it could take another year just to process the paperwork for the transfer. A very stressful situation. What can ya do?
Just not give up i guess.
Anyways...Varanus Bengalensis is a wonderful creature that deserves much respect. I just hope more people feel the same way.
