First monitor suggestions

Green tree monitors are NOT a beginner animal. The typical response to that question in this forum is ackies....

:I'd say a savannah, the females top out around 3- 3.5 feet and are very tame and make great pets
:green tree montiro's are nice smaller monitors as well but they are a pricey animal, savannah's can be picked up easily for less than 50 dollars. This is just my suggestion however and i am kinda partial to savannah's and Nile's but thats just me

::I am very interested in monitors and looking to get my first. Can anyone please help with suggestions on what species would be a good choice. I am looking for something not too large, say maybe around 3 feet, and tame would probably be my main issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
