In Reply to: Questions on going to a rack system for breeding. posted by HDEAN on February 24, 2003 at 08:03:19:

I have somewhat of a custom system, which I have been making for almost 20 years.
I have used jumbo kitty litter pans, rubbermaids, and just finished this one.
This rack is 5 feet high, 3 feet across and 2 feet deep. I put them on wheels, so they can
simply be wheeled into the hibernation room.
Rather than the heavy melamine particle board which is often used, I make both the frame and palets from
1 by 3 pine. Each layer contains 2 trays. One for the male and one for the female.
With this size tray , I get 18 charges per rack. I keep and breed everything from house snakes, rosy and sand boas
to Honduran milks, in this setup. I also have similar systems for the smaller shoebox size tray.
Each tray frame is screened, and this allows maximum ventillation without putting holes in the trays.
It also eliminates much of the solid wood, creating very light weight units that are easy to move.
The trays slide on their lips, instead of their bottoms.
