there has been a REAL slack of info regaurding animal laws in cities and townships. A very real and very bad scenario that has effected many of us ( and this is why people knows that i have lived outside of city limits for years ): You buy a house in a city not knowing what city ordinances are on animals other then the usaul cat and dog laws, you get bombed by animal control after awhile when they learn that you have reptiles, you find that you CANNOT keep the reptiles and NO grandfather law exist. What do you do ? Another scenario: while a petstore may be able to sell reptiles ( like ours could at one time when we were in business) but the city itself doesn't allow the keeping of reptiles ! ? See the catch -22 ? Most city laws have ordinances in place concerning large snakes and certain lizards ( mostly iguanas ) now. ( notice I didn't say anything about venomous in which I keep but that is another story ). There has been small books posted on this exact forum on the why/reason of passing such laws. In other words, it doesn't make any sense. But it IS the law and we are in comtempt if we don't know or have a way to find out on the city laws.

:Knowing 2 pet store owners Ive seen what was legal and what wasnt,but it has been about 2 years and im sure its updated.It is true there should be a website regarding herps/pet industry.Each city should post these laws for us to know so we can follow the rules accordingly.You cant expect a person to follow a rule that is not known.These things should be advertised just like all there other laws.
