I'm with everyone here - it depends on the type of king, and most especially this individual king's temperment. Is there any chance you could keep it maybe as a display animal in the classroom for a time, handle it yourself only to get a feel for it's "personality"? Then take it home over this summer and get to know it. You could even let the kids touch if you were in control of the head, but I'd give myself time to gauge the snake's temperment myself before allowing kids in a situation where they run the risk of being bit.
