Thanks for replying Denny. You are right they were being fed ants from the genus Lasius. I think it was Lasius niger and Lasius flavus.The problem now is to get them switched back over to the harverster ants found in North and Central America.When I was their I observed the ants they were being fed. They looked like black army ants and when crushed they smelled highly acidic almost like muratic acid used in swimming pools.It is very interesting how they had become accustomed to eating ants found on a different continent from where they are native. They eagerly consumed them. They are now starting to get used to the different movements,structure, and taste of the harvester ants. They are very interesting and seem to be a real hardy species of phrynosoma. I am in the process of writing an article on behaviors,requirements, and varieties on growth and behavior through different lighting and nutrition.Here is a pic of a male the other was a female color varies from whiteish pink to charcol grey.
