Anyone know anything about Jewel snakes?

Nope, not rear-fanged. The common name is "Speckled racer". There are several species ranging from southwestern Texas down through Central America into northern South America. They are fiesty critters and I really haven't seen them fare too well in captivity, but it's been years since I've seen one in captivity. Maybe someone is captive breeding them now? Most that I've seen have been in the 3ft to 4 ft range as far as max size. I know they are at least as hard as black racers or coachwhips to catch.


:Rearfanged I believe...I seem to remember people calling them some sort of racer. There was an article on them a while back in one of the herpetological magazines...most likely Reptile and Amphib. Hobbyist. Andy
