Alligators are NOT endangered in Texas. They are protected under CITES as a "look-alike" species.

Although you can hunt alligators in Texas, you can't "hunt one per year" or anything crazy like that. Harvest is VERY strictly regulated. You can only harvest alligator(s) if you have a CITES tag(s) issued to you, as a landowner ot their agent, bu the department. You must have enough property in habitat to support a SUSTAINABLE harvest to receieve a tag(s).

In other words, don't think you can go out and just shoot a gator because you happen to have a hunting license. Don't think that gators are in danger of becoming extinct in Texas any longer, either. These comments are only made to clarify misconceptions towards the legal harvest of alligators and not in any way make any comments in ANY way towards the event that started this thread.
