THose are very valid questions and I share the same concern. Our wildlife center (in the CHicago area) takes in over a dozen gators/crocs each year from people just like those you mentioned....they bought these animals without any clue as to what they were getting themselves into. Most crocs are NOT pets; plain and simple. While there are some on this forum who are very knowledgeable and responsible owners, and should be allowed to legally do so, there are many more (including those on this forum) who have absolutely NO business keeping any type of crocodilian. Yes, they are magnificent creatures and one of my favorites to observe, but they do not make good pets or captives for the average person UNLESS you have adequate resources, space, maturity, dedication and time. Of course, I feel that your question can be applied to ANY person keeping herps....it still amazes me how people cut corners and treat reptiles like disposable pets; very sad.
:Hey guys, I jusy have a generalized question. Almost every post i read about people wanting to buy a croc is that they are looking for the cheapest animals bc they dont have alot of money. WTF!! I just cannot imagine if you have to haggle over 25$ price difference between dealers, how in the WORLD are you expecting to properly care, feed, house for the animal in a 6 months/year when its 2x as big, or even as an adult? I just cant understand this thought process. This is not inteneded to be a flame but a real thought provoking question.
