you can get a frilly to tame down as much as a beardie, but it takes a little more work. 1st step would be to make sure you get a captive bred one--make sure it is cb in the us (not farmed in indonesia--many dealers are claiming "cb" for those). They'll tend to be tamer. Then, get em used to hand feeding. I'd also suggest a male.
The cons are that it is harder to find a true cb frilly--buy breeder direct to avoid being lied to. The other con is that frillies need bigger enclosures than a beardie. Check out www.karnivor.com for a caresheet.

: I am a beginner with lizards, but not necessarily with reptiles (mostly experienced with snakes). A buddy of mine has a beardie, which is a very mellow animal, and a lot of fun to interact with. I would like a lizard that is comparable in temperment to a beardie, but something a little less commonplace. Even if they need a little more work to tame down, that would be fine. Overall though, what are the pros and cons in the comparison between the two lizards? Thank you all very much for any and all replies.
