:Nothing better than to spend Tax Day running around a beaver swamp on my day off from work. Twas a bright and very sunny day; temps between 85-92 F with light intermittant breeze.
:My digital camera sucks, but ya should get the idea.

:This is all from a protected wetland/natural area I like to scope out...
:
:* found the broken remains of an eastern box turtle shell.
:* saw 3 Canada geese, several red-wing blackbirds, red-shoulder hawk, and a green heron.
:* photographed a male/female pair of eastern ribbon snakes hanging out under a board.
:* saw several clumps of spotted salamander eggs in various stages of development, photographed one.
:* photographed some marbled salamander tadpoles.
:* photographed a wood frog.
:* heard several gray treefrogs calling.
:* heard several spring peepers calling.
:* heard a green frog calling piteously only to track it down and find a good size northern water (or eastern garter) snake in the process of trying to eat him....too far away to get a clear photograph with my crappy digital camera and the snake could not be properly identified as it pulled under the water when it spotted me.
:* spotted several frogs hopping into the water but not able to identify from brief glimpses.

:Strangly enough did not see any turtles out today. Usually in this particular area I would find several eastern painteds basking and on occasion will see a common snapper or spotted turtle wandering around along the bottom of the shallower water ways. It is still a little too early for the red-spotted newts to be out breeding as of yet; normally don't see them until May.
