: Field "observations" would be a better term--better, perhaps, for this whole forum.

: That editorializing aside...

: I spent a week in July visiting a number of the Galapagos Islands.

: We visited the Charles Darwin Research Center, where we saw numerous tortoises, including recent hatchlings from clutches collected from islands where introduced predators put eggs/babies at risk.

: We were also fortunate enough to observe in the wild three tortoises. Other herps observed included three specimens of the Galapagos Snake; perhaps a dozen or more sea turtles, some close-up while snorkeling; numerous Lava Lizards, and hundreds of Marine Iguanas, ranging from tiny juveniles to near-five foot adults.

: The only species we missed was the Land Iguana: one was spotted from our Zodiac as we cruised the shoreline of an island, but the only person who got a legitimate look was the passenger with image-stabilization binoculars: Another tech tool we'll now all need!

: The subsequent posts show a litle of what we saw. I hope you enjoy them.
