and they are such a time saver!.. that being said..
ive also lost several tubs of mice due to "drown outs".. that mice mess with the valves and stick shavings in the valve.. causing it to fill the tub with water drowning everyone inside..
this could be because my tubs are 3" tall.. (which is my best bet).. a taller tub would make it harder for them to mess with the valve as much.. but a tub or two of mice isnt too high a price to pay for convenience..
they are almost always mounted from the top sticking down.. but if you are using really tall bins (for rats).. they will chew on the feed lines.. and cause leakage.. so you will need to protect ANY of the 5/16" flex lines that the animals can gain access too.
ive never run my system out of water (dont use the lame 1 gallon bucket the system comes with, get a 5 gallon one from a homestore and put the tank connector into it).. it lasts longer, and is just easier IMHO..
if you are using the system for rats.. use the "cage clips" that agselect offers to hold the valves from being able to be PULLED into the cage by the animals..
