I am looking for references to books, web sites, or other
good information sources on the successful keeping (and
ideally breeding) of non-venomous European snake species,
especially rat snakes (genus Elaphe) and other constrictors.
For example:
-- What are each species' temperature, humidity, food, etc.
requirements?
-- What are the difficulties typically encountered in keeping
each species?
-- How amenable to handling does each species TYPICALLY become
(knowing this is dependent on proper, respectful handling
and the temperament of individual specimens)?
-- Are there formal or informal networks or associations or
whatever of people who keep and breed a given species?

Any references with reliable information are welcome, from an
introductory level to technical professional journal articles.
Before I go in search of sources of captive bred individuals
of European species here in the U.S.A., I need to know which
species I could provide a good home to! Thank you.
