: A resident of my neighborhood gave me a Texas Tortoise after finding it walking down his street. It appears to be an older male tortoise and weighs about 15
: pounds. He is very active during the day and has been roaming around my large back yard for about a week. I have been making a number of vegetables available
: which he has been taking in quantity while he roams. I understand that these creatures are protected in Texas and while I consider myself capable of providing a
: decent (car free) backyard environment for him, I am interested in either obtaining any permit required for posession or setting him up with a wildlife reserve. I live in
: the Austin, TX area. Any advice?

i think you should know that the fine for having a texas tortise is about 10,000 dollars
that is what a friend of mine has told me. And to get a permit to keep them is very hard to do.
I find them all yhe time here in kingsville and would like to keep them too.
but i heard it is very hard to obtain permits. And i would never want to pay such a fine as that
