It may take a male atrox three years to reach sexual maturity in the wild depending on local conditions, prey abundance, hunting strategies, etc. Then again, it could take longer or not quite as long. In captivity male atrox can be raised quickly and successfuly breed somewhere around a year of age. When it comes to a minimum size I would have to agree with Jaffo in that males can successfully breed at fairly small sizes. I won't touch the issue of how long a female has to be to be sexually mature.

I could've sworn that some years back, it was already shown that snakes had to reach at least 60-70% of their adult body length to be able to breed, regardless of sex and how long it took to reach that minimum size.
