Well, I bought a yearling corn snake for my kids (2 and 7) and they loved it so much that I had to run out and get a yearling Ball Python the next weekend so that they each had one to focus on.

After the initial 2 days of squirminess (sp?) my 2 year old has no problem controlling the cornsnake and the ball just hangs out too.

Both are cool but the cornsnake is more 'interactive' and they will both be about the same length (within a foot) when fully grown and the python will be more hefty.

Good luck with which ever you decide.
