strange feeding behaviour

Hi all, yesterday I fed my ball python a live hamster and after killing the prey, she released it. Then she kept on "smelling" the dead food item, though still not taking hold of it, running her snout over the hamster's body. I thought that she had decided not to eat it but suddenly she grasped the hamster (near the tail) and began swallowing it.

Usually she swallows the hamster immediately after killing it (without releasing it), so I found this behaviour pretty strange. Does anyone know why she did this or have you guys had similiar behaviour from your ball pythons? Thanks.
