Hatchling BP with umbilicus attached...help...

I have a friend who wholesales reptiles, and he regularly lets me come "play" with his animals. He recently got in a hatchling BP with a hard lump of what I am assuming is umbilicus still attached to it's tummy. My friend said that he didn't expect it to live, and he let me to bring it home. Yesterday it shed, and the umbilicus stuff came off. Now, there is literally just a hole in it's stomach, it is about 1/8 inch across. You can see into it. It is not bloody. It doesn't seem to hurt it, and the snake is still active. It has not eaten, but I have only had it about two days, and I know that it is common for babies not to eat for a while, after shipping and all that stress. For now, I put some Neosporin on the hole. Has anyone else had this experience before? Is there anything that I can do for this little baby? Does anyone know what it's odds of surviving are? If I can help it to live, great! But if experience shows that it will live a horrible, painful life, I would rather take it to the vet and have it "put to sleep". I'm worried that when it eats it may...I don't know...it's unlikely, I suppose, but I'm worried that stuff would come out of that hole. I guess I've seen too many sci-fi movies! Anyway, any help in this matter would be great.
Marcy
