: gaboon vipers toxitity is potentialy leathal so do not get bitten!

Gab's have the largest venom glands, and fangs of any venomous snake known. Though somewhat mild mannered when compared wuth Bitis Arietans, Ther strike is lightening fast, and the afetr effects are always devestating, even with anti-venin which is not widely available in the U.S. Gab's grow like weeds with bi-weekly feedings of size approprite food items. Hydration is critical, and weekly soakings in water is paramount, as Gab's seldom drink free standing without being placed directly into it. Soakng them in a 35 gal. trashcan ( plastic ) with locking lid, will do nicely as they are not active snakes at all. low lighting broad spectrum bulbs are good 82 to 86 degrees f normal range execpt when breeding then allow temp down to 62 degrees and reduce light available for about a two month period, reduce feedings once a month small food items, water often. Increase temp's and light, after two month.
Word of caution, male Gab's get quite aggressive, and must never be taken for granted.
