COMMON GARTERSNAKE Thamnophis sirtalis (Linnaeus, 1758) 

STATUS:  Uncommon

DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant, and Wise.

HABITAT:  Fort Worth Prairie, Mesquite Grand Prairie, Trinity River Bottoms, and Blackland Prairie

SUBSPECIES:  Texas Gartersnake (T. s. annectens Brown, 1950)     

COMMENTS:  The Texas gartersnake is not as common as it once was.
