COPPERHEAD Agkistrodon contortrix (Linnaeus, 1766) STATUS: Common DOCUMENTED COUNTIES: Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise HABITAT: Trinity River Bottoms, Blackland Prairie, Eastern Cross Timbers, Western Cross Timbers, Post Oak Belt, Cedar-limestone Hills, and Brazos River Bottoms SUBSPECIES: Southern Copperhead A. c. contortrix (Linnaeus, 1766) and Broad-banded Copperhead A. c. laticinctus Gloyd and Conant, 1934 COMMENTS: The Southern copperhead is from Kaufman County while the Broad-banded copperhead is from Parker, Somervell, and Wise Counties. The counties in between are intermediate in pattern.  |
