Is it a Green Tree frog or White's Tree Frog

Hyla Cinerea (green tree frog)

Litoria caerulea (white's tree frog)

There have been debates about this only because these are common names for the frogs Hyla Cinerea (green tree frog) and Litoria caerulea (white's tree frog).

The problem with common names is that they can vary from place to place (and this isn't wrong). The reason for common names is to just make it easier to not only say but remember. I'd much rather say green tree frog than hyla cinerea. It is very common in Australia, for example, to call litoria caerulea a green tree frog. I mean, they're tree frogs and they're green, right, it makes sense to me. But in the United States it is more common to hear White's Tree Frog probably because there is already a native Green Tree Frog (hyla cinerea).

This is why it is important to specify the species when describing your frog in a post or with someone that might potentially misunderstand a common name.
