In order to study how far back venom
goes, we of course had to study the extremely primative snakes,
the pythons. We found, not suprisingly, that the pythons lacked
any traces of venom but considering that we previously pulled
cobratoxins out of ratsnakes, we couldn't rule anything out!

A young scrub python (Morelia
amethistina) ~ 2 meters long. These lovelies get over 7 meters
long.

Our baby green tree python (Morelia
viridis). As these snakes mature they loose this flourescent
colouring and attain the green scales that give them their name.

A freshly captured adult black head
python (Aspiditis melanocephalus). These snakes are pythons
in name only and form a distinct lineage from the true pythons.

A wild caught reticulated python
(Python reticulatus) in Singapore that was not an albino but rather
almost all the black was replaced by gold or silver. A stunning
snake. As you can tell from my bleeding hand, the change in colour
didn't affect its teeth at all!
