Eastern diamondback Crotalus adamanteus

This snake looks pretty big in this picture, but she is a bit under six feet long and weighs around 11 pounds. She is a ten year old captive raised female with sixteen segments on her rattle. A few Eastern diamondbacks, usually males, can grow over 7 feet long, but not too much over. This photo has not been altered other than removing the background, but perspective helps make this snake look a little longer than it really is. Don't try "tailing" rattlesnakes at home - Dr. Bryan Grieg Fry is a professional venom researcher, and this animal is a very calm captive raised snake that is used to being handled and photographed.
