There were only two snakes at this meeting, but both were pretty special!
The first was a neonate Ball Python named 8-ball. (S)he was bought at the Aiken show. Lovely neonate bright colors and ultra smooth skin! Very friendly and curious. Has not yet eaten, hasn't even shed! baby ball python

And here is a Trinket ratsnake: trinket rat snake
I don't think I've ever seen one before. Very interesting pattern, startes out with blotches at the front and goes to stripes at the rear! The picture shows him just starting to puff! It's a wonder there was any picture at all, as he acted rather like a racer, zipping from here to there, darting about. He's about a year old, IIUC. Also came from the Aiken show.

There was some discussion about shows, with the general opinion being that there are really too many. If one goes to many one sees the same animals over and over. The best ones seem to come right after the eggs have hatched and then right before winter when people are selling off older stock. Maybe there aren't enough customers to support monthly shows in the southeast. But some places have good shows frequently. Hard to say exactly what is the difference.

We talked about the Reptile Beauty Pageant which takes place in July. Last year it was in the barn, which everybody thought was a nicer location than in a tent in the yard. Chris would like to see a more educational effort. He's not impressed with the giving of prizes. All of us agree it's about impossible to realistically judge "the best" from such a disparate collection of animals. Chris has called for some of us to do presentations. He'll do something on boas, I can make some remarks about ball pythons, Scott and Teri can discuss cornsnakes. Surely we can convince Charlie to say something about turtles!

We all like the work the kids have done in the past - the "science project" displays about their animals. We'd like to see that continued.

Perhaps next month we can get Will Leary to bring a few animals and we can visit with him and ask him questions. Then in July we can try for Charlie to do his pictures of his trip, if he ever gets his pictures figured out! :)))
