Meeting
The Christmas Party

First things first: Next meeting will be in March 2003. We do not need to bring out our herps in cold bad weather.

Everybody brought a dish to pass. Charlie also brought the Bot Fly larva he had inadvertantly picked up during his November herping trip to Bolivia. We started supper first, and then got to talking about the Bot Fly and passed around the nasty larva (in its bottle of preservative). And we all looked at the scar where it was dug out of his arm.  8C  He said it was a small larva. Personally I'll think twice about going where those things live! Yuk!

Supper was very good: cheese and crackers, broccoli and rice casserole, very tasty jambalaya, deviled eggs, cookies, cupcakes, softdrinks, pie... and there was plenty for everyone. :)

After supper Charlie showed slides from his trip: butterflies of all colors (none familiar to us here), beautiful scenery, a couple of lizards, caimens, capybaras, birds, wonderful frogs, some good turtle shots, a few snakes and one fish. He had an interesting sequence of a parrot snake eating a frog.

There were four snakes at the meeting: Peton the Ball Python and three beautiful young boas.

Look at the belly pattern on this Argentine cross! Salmon boa. Funny how the colors shift with the lighting angle.
