kingsnake racing c6.k carbon fiber hood
The kingsnake racing c6.k hood is a hi-rise vented Carbon Fiber unit produced by Hi-Tech Custom Concepts Inc., a New York based manufacturer of Corvette and Hummer aftermarket accessories. Designed to accomodate blowers as large as the M112 and M122 Callaway and MagnaCharger supercharger units, it was chosen to give us lots of flexibility and airflow when it came time to select our supercharger system, and at 19.84lbs was one way to lighten the car a bit in the process. The deep luster of the Carbon Fiber also happens to match the weave of the stock interior C/F, as well as the planned wing and air dam. Purchased through Southern Car Parts and shipped by common carrier, the hood arrived at the shop earlier than anticipated, so it was ready when we needed it. In the shop with Gary and his techs at Austin Corvette, the stock fiberglass hood was carefully removed from the car and stripped of all the stock mounting hardware, latches, etc., which were set aside. Later this hardware would be attached to the new Carbon Fiber hood and used to mount it in the stock locations. It was decided to install the optional drip pans for now to help keep the rain out while we drive the car from show to show. Later they will be removed as needed, to increase ventilation. Once the pans were installed under the vents, the underside of the hood was given a final coat of black paint to cover the vents and even out the original paintwork. Later the underside of the hood will be customized with sponsor graphics. When the paint dried, the mounting hardware removed from the stock hood earlier was installed, and with extra hands the hood was bolted into place. It took a bit of adjusting, both of the hood and of the fiberglass nose, before they lined up reasonably well. As the hood came clearcoated and ready to go, all it needed was a light coat of wax to bring out out the deep weave of the black fibers underneath and we were ready to go. Now all we need is something to put under it! We are currently looking for sponsors that can help provide us with performance and appearance mods to help us complete our show car/pro street racer. We have plenty of space under the Hi-Rise CF hood to install just about any supercharger or turbocharger system designed to accommodate the LS3 engine. If your business would be interested in sponsoring the c6.k, please see our sponsorship page. |
